PanOptic™ Ophthalmoscope Overview

Our revolutionary PanOptic Ophthalmoscope addresses the fundamental challenge in ophthalmoscopy—to get a good view of the fundus in order to make a sufficient assessment. Patented Axial PointSource™ Optics make it easy to enter undilated pupils, offering a 25º field of view, resulting in a view of the fundus that’s 5X wider than you see with a traditional ophthalmoscope in an undilated eye. Direct viewing of the fundus through the PanOptic ophthalmoscope provides better visulization of changes in the retina, and possible signs of hypertension, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and papilledema to enable clinicians to make these diagnoses earlier.

Capabilities & Features

  • 25X larger viewing area vs. traditional ophthalmoscopes in an undilated eye
  • Digitally capture, store, and share fundus images by combining with iExaminer
  • Greater working distance improves comfort for both practitioner and patient
  • Dynamic focusing wheel allows continuous, smooth action and more precise control
  • Choose between SureColor® LED or Halogen HPX® illumination
  • Compatible with all Welch Allyn 3.5 V power sources

Parts of the PanOptic™ Ophthalmoscope

Axial PointSource Optics

Our patented Axial PointSource Optics make it easy to enter small, undilated pupils, providing a wider view of the fundus.

a.) Converges the illumination to a point at the patient’s cornea, allowing easy entry into small pupils
b.) Then diverges the illumination pathway to the patient’s retina, illuminating a very wide area of the fundus
c.) Simultaneously enables the practitioner to view the illuminated area on virtually the same axis, creating the widest field of view attainable

Patient Eyecup

The eyecup establishes and maintains a stable, proper viewing distance.

Apertures & Filters

The aperture dial provides a range of settings including three spot sizes, micro, small, and large, slit aperture and red-free filter. Also on select models, half-moon aperture or cobalt blue filter with add-on magnifying lens for corneal examination.

Focusing Wheel

The focusing wheel adjusts the focus in a continuous, smooth action.

3.5V Power Source

The PanOptic ophthalmoscope works with all Welch Allyn 3.5V rechargeable power handles and wall transformers.
